AKEL is back in the fray over the Pentakomo OEDA, continuing its “clash” with the government.
In a statement, the party says that “the government was upset because AKEL spoke out about what they are trying to hide.” Today, 80% of waste is buried at the Pentakomo Landfill, and instead of the government providing convincing explanations for the findings regarding the landfill’s management, its long-standing failures, the environmental impacts, the responsibilities of those who oversaw the facility, and the planning regarding waste management, it is once again resorting to shifting the blame onto previous administrations.”
“Let us remind the President that they have been in power for nearly three years. If everything was indeed done correctly, why such hesitation in the face of these questions? Why such an effort to divert the discussion from the substance?” adds the left-wing party.

At the same time, it is noted that citizens are aware that the Pentakomo Waste Management Facility is one of the most problematic cases in the country’s waste management, with enormous economic and environmental costs. They also know that the case remains under investigation by the competent authorities for criminal offenses.
“What troubles the government is that, despite efforts to cover up the matter and manage public perception, the Pentakomo OEDA case remains open, and the truth cannot be buried along with the problems that have been piling up at the facility for years.”

No matter how many statements the government issues, it cannot hide the reality, AKEL adds, emphasizing that it will continue to demand transparency, accountability, and planning, while highlighting every issue concerning the management of public funds, environmental protection, and public health.
“At the same time, we are calling for serious planning and comprehensive waste management, because in the end, we will pay dearly even for our trash,” the party concludes.
