A touching art exhibition organized by parents and patients of the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at Makarios Hospital pays tribute to 15-year-old Alexandros Chrysostomou. The unfortunate young man fought a courageous battle against cancer and served as an example of resilience and bravery, sending messages of hope to all children fighting their own battles.
The exhibition features approximately 200 works by children and parents from the Pediatric Oncology Clinic at Makareio Hospital, children and adolescents from the “Agia Skepi” Therapeutic Community, as well as a physician from the Clinic. The collection includes paintings, painted stones, and other visual art creations; each piece is unique and conveys a message of faith, strength, love, and hope.
The paintings were created as part of an educational pilot program implemented during the last four months of the 2025–2026 by the Ministry of Education, with the aim of providing educational and psychosocial support to children hospitalized at the Pediatric Oncology Clinic of Makarios Hospital.
The exhibition, titled “The Garden of Virtues,” is an initiative of educator Maria Andreou Foka and is being hosted at the Agios Charalambos Cultural Center in Geri. (next to the church)
The exhibition’s opening will take place on Sunday, July 12, at 11:00 a.m., under the auspices of Archbishop George of Cyprus. The exhibition will be open to the public on Monday, July 13, and Tuesday, July 14, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Pediatric Clinic at Makarios Hospital to support children.
Here’s what Ms. Foka told journalist Olga Konstantinou on the “Alpha Enimerosi” program:
