Eleven years after the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of an undersea water pipeline from Anamur, Turkey, to the occupied town of Panagra, this bidirectional natural gas pipeline will also start from Anamur and, via a route of approximately 101 km, only 4 of which are on land, to the power plant in Kyrenia Bank, the only one owned by the “Electricity Authority.”

“Halkin Sesi” is titled “A Giant Step in Energy” and highlights the statements made by “Prime Minister” Ünal Ustel at the ceremony, as well as the Turkish Vice President’s remark that long-term projects are important for political stability and that the ties between Turkey and the pseudo-state will become even closer close.

“Star Kıbrıs” ran the headline “The Project That Will Shape the TRNC’s Centennial” and notes that Mr. Yilmaz held a joint press conference with “Prime Minister” Oustel, but also visited the Turkish Cypriot leader, Tufan Erhurman.

“Dialog,” under the headline “A Historic Turning Point,” highlights the Turkish Vice President’s statement that the natural gas to be supplied to the occupied territories will not only ensure energy security but also help reduce energy costs.

“Kibris” carries the headline “The First Step Toward a Historic Project” and features photos from the signing ceremony, as well as Yilmaz’s remarks at the joint press conference with Mr. Ustel that the “the only realistic solution in Cyprus is that of two states coexisting side by side.”

“Vatan” is headlined “Yesterday came the water, today the natural gas” and presents the project with a map.

“Geni Bakis” is titled “Energy Production Costs Will Fall.”

The online newspaper “Kibris Postasi” carries the headline “Agreement on the pipeline between the TRNC and Turkey signed,” while the online “Kibris Türk” is headlined “Yilmaz pulled off a miracle; work on the natural gas pipeline has begun.”

“Hakikat” runs the headline “We are united in thought and heart (SS: harmony)” and highlights the meeting between the Turkish Vice President and the Turkish Cypriot leader, as well as the statements they made afterward—according to an announcement from the “presidency”— were made afterward, stating that they are in full coordination regarding the Cyprus issue and Yilmaz’s reference to “coordination for our common cause.”

The only newspapers that make no mention on their front pages of the signing ceremony and the statements made yesterday are “Avruppa” and “Genie Duzan.”
