Four young men—including two minors—are facing very serious charges of multiple rapes in Britain, after a woman reported that they raped her and illegally held her captive in a house in Weston-super-Mare, in Somerset.
According to the Mirror, the case was investigated by a specialized unit of the Avon and Somerset Police, which proceeded to arrest the four suspects, aged 19, 18, and two 17-year-olds.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on June 21, when the woman was allegedly threatened, raped, and unlawfully confined inside the home during the attack.
Serious Charges
19-year-old Tommy Campbell is charged with six counts of rape, one count of sexual assault, unlawful detention, and causing actual bodily harm. Eighteen-year-old Rio Welling faces two counts of rape and one count of unlawful detention.
The two 17-year-olds are not being named, in accordance with British law regarding the protection of minors. One is charged with three counts of rape, unlawful detention, and causing bodily harm, while the other faces one count of rape and one of causing bodily harm.
In custody pending trial
All four were remanded in custody and appeared before the Totton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, July 11.
The lead investigator, Inspector Natalie Thatcher, described the filing of the charges as a “significant milestone” in the investigation, noting that the inquiries over the past few weeks were conducted in close cooperation with the Crown Prosecution Service.
At the same time, she noted that the complainant has been briefed on developments by specially trained police officers, who continue to provide her with the necessary psychological and practical support.
She further explained that the coordinated arrest operations carried out on Thursday in the Weston and Worl areas caused concern among residents, but were deemed absolutely necessary for the progress of the investigation; she also thanked the public for their patience and cooperation.
