Lionel Messi very rarely loses his composure, but that’s exactly what happened in the first half of the World Cup quarterfinal between Argentina and Switzerland, when he had a heated exchange with referee João Pedro Pinhais.

The 39-year-old star flew into a rage at the Portuguese referee when the latter—in a rather… tactless manner, or at least as “Leo” perceived it, asked him to stand at the required distance from the ball for the wall during an opponent’s foul.
Messi was irritated by the tone of Pinheiro’s voice and told him: “Speak to me with respect. Don’t be disrespectful! Speak to me properly, just as I speak to you!”
