That is why Nikos Christodoulides appears to be carefully vetting every idea and candidate for the upcoming cabinet reshuffle, as his goal is to keep centrist forces close and gain as much support as possible from the Democratic Alarm.
Of course, so far both goals seem out of reach.

As for the Democratic Rally, the party’s vice president, appearing on Alpha TV’s Sunday podcast, “25 Minutes,” launched a scathing attack on Nikos Christodoulides, saying he does not strike him as a natural leader.

“I will find it difficult to be the voice advocating that we continue to support Nikos Christodoulides’s government. While the president has proven to be a very good manager of day-to-day affairs, and a very capable foreign minister, in his role as President of the Republic we currently lack clarity on exactly where this government is headed.”

” Now, as for Pindarou Street, although the fuse hasn’t been lit, the smell of gunpowder is in the

air.”“Officially, that is, we haven’t done anything so far. Nor are we holding any official discussion within a collective body of the Democratic Alarm.” Onoufrios Koulas, Spokesperson Alpha reports that top-ranking officials are expected to raise issues concerning the party’s future at the political office on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in Pina.

Although this has not been officially acknowledged, organizational structures have already been established on three levels:

The first involves party officials who will support Averof Neophytou’s candidacy and who have long kept their distance from the current leadership

. The second mechanism is that of Annita Dimitriou, president of DISY; although she has not officially thrown her hat into the ring, the activities of officials around her are steadily increasing in preparation for the future.

The third faction centers on the possible candidacy of Giorgos Pamporidis, for which he himself has expressed interest.  The officials surrounding him are mainly disgruntled members of the “Alarm” faction and individuals seeking something different from the party.

The issue now for Pindarou is this: whoever ultimately receives the nomination must manage to keep the party as united as possible. This is an extremely difficult undertaking, considering that Giorgos Pamporidis has already spoken of a “war” he faced in the run-up to the parliamentary elections. As for whether this is a sign of things to come, Onoufrios Koulas responds

: ““I cannot offer such interpretations. What I’m saying is what the chairwoman of our party has already said: there are bodies in place to investigate such allegations.  What I can tell you is that other candidates have also received similar complaints from various other sources. I’ll leave it at that.”  Onoufrios Koula, DISY

Press Spokesperson In any case, popularity polls are being conducted by every political party and for every potential candidate. Announcements regarding the presidential race by those interested will apparently begin after the cabinet reshuffle, and a period of intense political maneuvering will follow for about 17 months.
