Diego Forlán is Uruguay's new coach. It appears that the veteran forward will succeed Marcelo Bielsa as head coach of the “Celeste” following the team’s disappointing World Cup performance.

The Federation and Forlán have agreed to a collaboration through March, and the AUF cannot commit to a longer-term plan because elections are scheduled forat the end of 2026. Consequently, the 47-year-old coach will lead Uruguay in the matches scheduled for September, October, and November. Friendly matches may also be scheduled through March.
Meanwhile, Diego Forlán, who has previously coached only at Peñarol (Jan. 20–Aug. 20) and Atenas (3/21–9/21), will also be on the bench for Uruguay’s U20 team.
