The Fire Department was called into action a few minutes after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday night.
According to the official report, at 10:12 p.m., a call was received regarding a fire in dry grass, wild vegetation, and a large reed bed near the open-air market in Livadia, adjacent to the Larnaca–Ayia Napa highway.
The Larnaca Fire Stations and the Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK) responded with five fire trucks, as well as a rescue vehicle and a rescue team.

Some of the market’s makeshift structures were also damaged by the fire and the heat. LPG cylinders were also affected; they were moved by members of the Fire Department, while the rest of the market’s facilities were protected.
The Fire Department was assisted by an excavator from the Municipal District of Livadia.
The fire appears to have started in the reed bed and then spread.
The cause is under investigation.
