Argentina is set to face England on Wednesday night (July 15, 10:00 p.m.) in a crucial World Cup semifinal against England, where they’ll be looking for a win to advance to the championship match. The goal for everyone on the “Albiceleste” is to defend the title they won in 2022 and become the first team to win back-to-back World Cups since 1962.
Lionel Scaloni’s team, if nothing else, has the know-how when it comes to the unique challenges of such matches, having played dozens of them and emerged victorious from nearly all of them!
Specifically, with the 48-year-old coach at the helm, Argentina has suffered only one defeat in a knockout match, and that was seven years ago, in 2019 at the Copa América, losing 2-0 to Brazil.
Since then, Argentina has managed to lift the trophy in every tournament it has competed in, establishing a true dynasty led by Lionel Messi as its figurehead.
As a reminder, the “Albiceleste” won the Copa América in 2021, the Finalissima in 2022, the World Cup that same year, and the Copa América for the second time in 2024. Now, they have the chance to win back-to-back World Cups, provided they first manage to emerge victorious from the big showdown against Thomas Tuchel’s team.
