England faces Argentina on Wednesday (July 14) a major match against Argentina in the World Cup semifinals and is poised to take one step closer to winning the coveted trophy.
Jude Bellingham has been the undisputed star so far; together with Harry Kane’s contributions, he is carrying the “Three Lions” on his back, scoring six goals and providing one assist.
In light of the 23-year-old Englishman’s remarkable achievements, an English soccer legend, John Terry, sang his praises in the latest episode of the FIFA podcast. Specifically, he noted that the player reminds him of Zinedine Zidane, as he has the unique ability to carry the team on his back during tough times, while emphasizing that he considers England’s roster to be better than Argentina’s.
Finally, he referred to the 2002 and 2006 World Cups, noting that the teams that won the World Cup had player-leaders, as is now the case with the "Three Lions" with the example of Bellingham.
Here’s what he said in detail
“I’ve said it from the start of this World Cup—he reminds me of Zidane. Right now, he’s carrying the whole team on his back. I believe he’s world-class. And when you hear him speak off the field, you realize he has incredible composure and maturity. To be honest, I’m not worried about Argentina.
I don’t look at Argentina and think they’re better than us. I believe that, player for player, we’re the better team.
You know what I like about this England national team right now? We’ve had some great moments. We have a very good team, but I feel like everything is going our way. It gives me the sense that this is England’s moment.”
