Under the watchful eye of Giorgos Bartzokas, John Poulakidas took the court in the early hours of the morning at the Las Vegas Summer League.
The 23-year-old shooting guard (1.98 m) is on Olympiacos’ radar; the club wants to strengthen its Greek presence, and the Greek-American star has already begun the process of obtaining a passport (both of his parents are Greek).
In the Mavericks’ 96-88 victory over the Grizzlies, Poulakidas played for 23:42, scoring 6 points (1/1 free throws, 1/4 three-pointers), 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, 1 block, and 3 turnovers. In the same game, Spanish player Sergio De Larea, who was selected in the draft, had 16 points and 12 assists.
Poulakidas graduated from Yale last summer without being selected in the draft. During the 2025–26 season, he had a two-way contract with the Mavericks and, in 13 appearances, averaged 8.8 points (40.3% from three-point range) and 2.3 rebounds in 19.5 minutes per game.
His priority is to secure a contract with an NBA team, however, if that doesn’t happen, then it’s very likely he’ll come to Greece, as Stoiximan GBL teams—including Olympiacos—are offering him very good money.
