A case in which a 17-year-old girl was beaten by her 23-year-old boyfriend in Archangelos has caused a stir in Rhodes, with the medical examiner documenting 10 blows to the minor’s body.
According to the 17-year-old’s complaint against the 23-year-old, with whom she had been in a relationship for five months, it all happened on the night of June 20–21, 2026, when they went out with friends to a local nightclub. There, according to the minor’s complaint, the 23-year-old became angry out of jealousy and slapped her outside the venue, prompting patrons who witnessed the incident to intervene.
According to the 17-year-old’s complaint, the situation got even worse when they returned to their home, as from 3:30 a.m. until around 9 a.m., her partner beat her with punches and slaps to the face, on the head and body, and at one point allegedly slammed her head against the wall.
In fact, when the minor was asked if there had been an argument, she replied, “He was hitting me. There was no verbal altercation.” According to her, at one point the 23-year-old also grabbed a knife—a move that frightened her—so she shouted at him, “You’re going to kill me, you’re going to kill me, go away,” though she clarified that he didn’t point it at her.
In her complaint, the minor also stated that the 23-year-old threatened to break her teeth, that he wouldn’t leave her alive, and that he would burn her.
According to dimokratiki.gr, the incident came to an end when the relative who was hosting them intervened, restrained the young man, and in the morning drove them both to the police station himself, even urging the minor—as she herself reported—not to let the incident go unaddressed.
The forensic report with 10 findings
The medical examiner from the Dodecanese Forensic Service recorded a total of 10 distinct findings on the minor’s body.
Specifically, the report describes dried bloodstains with redness on the left eyebrow, ecchymosis above the left corner of the upper lip with hemorrhagic infiltration of the mucosa internally, a second ecchymosis on the upper lip mucosa, superficial microabrasions on the lower lip, swelling on the outer surface of the right eye socket, redness behind the left ear, a bruise with swelling on the scalp, a superficial abrasion on the left breast, two elongated bruises on the inner surface of the right arm, and a bruise on the thigh.
According to the findings, the injuries are consistent with the reported time of the incident and appear to have been caused by a blunt object.
The 23-year-old’s statement
After his arrest, the 23-year-old denied the charges. He admitted that outside the store he pushed his girlfriend, claiming that she had made a “jealous scene” because he was talking to another girl and that she had embarrassed him in front of his friends. He denied hitting her at home and claimed that the knife was simply lying on the table, that he picked it up and threw it aside with no intention of threatening her, even telling her not to be afraid.
In his defense, however, he also said, “if one person needs a slap to snap out of it, it’s okay for the other person to give it to them,” adding that he himself has been slapped and insulted by his partner and that “no matter what happens, we’re still together.”
It should be noted that the minor also reported an earlier incident, in early June 2026, when her partner allegedly headbutted her in the face, causing a cut on her upper lip that left a scar, adding that she had forgiven him
at the time.
Although the 23-year-old was brought before the court on June 22 and it was decided to keep him in custody, the 17-year-old ultimately agreed to the criminal mediation process, with the new hearing set for January 24, 2028, as the court decided to postpone the proceedings in order to explore the possibility of criminal mediation with the assistance of the Juvenile Prosecutor.
At the same time, the court lifted the defendant’s detention, and he was released on restrictive conditions. Specifically, he was ordered to stay at least 100 meters away from the victim and was prohibited from contacting her in any way.
