Since 1929, the “New Helvetia” Hotel in Platres has been a landmark for both local and foreign tourism in Cyprus. Why? It is the oldest and most historic hotel in Cyprus, which is why it has been awarded the “Historic Hotel of Cyprus” designation by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism.
In fact, the New Helvetia ranks among the most historic hotels in Europe, a fact that earns it a place among the significant monuments and attractions of the Troodos Mountains.
The TV program “Alpha News” and journalist Olga Konstantinou visited the cosmopolitan tourist resort in the Limassol district and spoke with the hotel’s co-owner, Niko Matthaiou.
As he noted, having celebrated 90 years of operation, the hotel has been recognized as the oldest hotel in Cyprus. It is worth noting that the hotel has been run by four generations of his family, and he pointed out that the presence of a cultural heritage hotel is a great asset for Platres.
Another unique and innovative feature of the hotel is the tree that has been growing inside the building for nearly a century.
