One person was killed and two others are missing after a boat carrying a total of 19 people capsized in San Francisco Bay, U.S. authorities announced yesterday, Tuesday.
Emergency services received “a report of a burning boat 600 yards (approx. 550 meters) off Alcatraz” at approximately 3:35 p.m. (local time), explained Dean Crispen, chief of the San Francisco Fire Department, in a short video shared by the city on Instagram.
Upon their arrival, rescuers found that the boat “had capsized,” he added.
One passenger lost his life despite the rescuers’ efforts to revive him, he said. “(Two) other people are still missing,” while “a dog was found dead,” the fire department official added.

A total of 19 people were on board the boat, according to authorities, who confirmed that 16 had been rescued.
Local television networks managed to capture footage of part of the wreckage of the small motorboat. It is shown sinking in San Francisco Bay.
Authorities did not say whether it was heading to Alcatraz, leaving Alcatraz, or was in the area for another reason.
The island, home to a world-famous prison that has been closed for decades, remains a major tourist attraction in San Francisco.
The water in the bay is usually very cold, even in the summer.
