The pseudo-state rejects the alleged plan by the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on the Cyprus issue, María Ángela Olguín, stating that “there is no turning back” from the position in favor of two sovereign and equal states, according to the English-language Turkish state television channel TRT World.

According to Turkish state television, the Turkish Cypriot side accuses Olgin of exceeding her authority and mandate, acting almost as a mediator.

The Turkish media outlet cites the Greek Cypriot press, according to which the alleged plan provides for the return of Varosha, Morphou, and Mesaoria to Greek Cypriot administration. In exchange, the Turkish Cypriot side is said to be securing functional political equality and a status of partial recognition.

TRT World characterizes the proposal as deliberately ambiguous, arguing that the Greek Cypriot side could interpret it as a step toward a federation, while the Turkish side could view it as a step toward a confederation.

The “foreign minister” of the pseudo-state, Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, told TRT World that the solution to the Cyprus problem does not lie in a new partnership with the Greek Cypriot side. As he argued, the solution lies in maintaining good-neighborly relations between “two sovereign and equal states.”

“We observe that an attempt is being made in Cyprus to set in motion a dangerous process through unrealistic scenarios and efforts to shape public perception,” he said. He also accused Ms. Olgin of assuming a role that falls outside her jurisdiction and of acting “almost like a mediator.”

Mr. Ertugruloglu categorically rejected any discussion of territorial concessions. “If the territories being demanded in this fantastical scenario were ceded, in violation of our constitution, we would have no homeland left to hand over. No territorial concessions,” he stated.

According to the report, the alleged plan also calls for the abolition of the 1960 Treaties of Guarantee and Alliance and their replacement with a multinational security architecture, based on Cyprus’s accession to NATO.

In the same context, it reportedly provides for the gradual withdrawal of Turkish troops from the island during a transitional period.

Olgin’s office has neither officially confirmed nor denied these specific claims.

TRT World further claims that the leak of the plan through the Greek Cypriot press, before it was presented at the negotiating table, has raised questions on the Turkish Cypriot side regarding its objectives and purpose.
