The Dutch midfielder underwent a medical examination, which revealed inflammation in his knee, and there is a serious risk that he will be sidelined for several months; with initial estimates suggesting he could be out for as long as four months.

The Spanish champions’ staff are furious with the “Oranje” because De Jong played in the final group stage match, as well as in the Round of 32, with injections in his knee, which exacerbated his injury.

“Barcelona is furious with Ronald Koeman (editor’s note: coach of the Netherlands) and the Oranje’s medical staff because De Jong played in the last two World Cup matches with knee injections and demanded an explanation regarding the player’s physical condition.
