Several explosions were heard tonight near the U.S. consulate in the city of Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, according to Agence France-Presse reporters and security sources.

The journalists said that air defense systems were activated near the consulate, which has been the target of drone and rocket attacks since the start of the war in the Middle East.
