The decision is in… and it’s a yellow card for Toliopoulos!
Aris and Panathinaikos have reached an agreement for the 30-year-old guard to return to Thessaloniki.
Aris had been the sole contender for Toliopoulos since Wednesday, as city rival PAOK withdrew from the race to sign him. The Thessaloniki club will pay Panathinaikos for the international star, offering a sum close to 1 million euros.
Toliopoulos appears to want to leave, as he has been offered a contract worth twice as much as the one he has with the “clover” (approximately 500,000 for the upcoming season), and he believes he will play a much larger role at Aris than he would have if he had stayed with Panathinaikos.
The veteran star left Aris last summer to join Panathinaikos, but after a year he is returning to familiar territory, now under the coaching of Vassilis Spanoulis. He has previously played alongside “Kill-Bill” on the national team.
