Khamenei: “Trump’s signature is worthless; they will learn a lesson they will never forget”

New escalation of tensions by Iran

Iran escalated tensions between Tehran and Washington once again, just hours after announcing that it was suspending all of its commitments under the memorandum of understanding with the U.S. The country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, described U.S. President Donald Trump’s signature as “worthless and lacking credibility” and warned that the United States would learn “lessons it will never forget.”

Specifically, Iran’s supreme leader issued a written statement in which he attacked U.S. President Donald Trump.

“The repeated violations of commitments by the ‘Great Satan’ of the memorandum of understanding signed between the presidents of Iran and the United States have once again proven to everyone just how worthless and unreliable the U.S. president’s signature is, and that intimidation, the pursuit of hegemony, and brutality are integral elements of American ideology and practice,” he said.

“Today, the ‘Great Satan’ has once again revealed its true face, without a mask, so that this dark experience of criminality and breach of commitments serves as yet another proof that the United States is deceitful, irrational, untrustworthy, and malicious,” he added.

Concluding his statement, Khamenei warned that “now that the American enemy seeks to ignite the flames of war and suffer even greater costs and deeper humiliation, it must know that the Iranian people and the Axis of Resistance have lessons in store for it that it will never forget. The heroism of the Islamic fighters and the courage of the residents of the southern region in recent days are just a taste of this.”

Earlier, Tehran announced that it was suspending all of its obligations under the agreement, emphasizing that the country’s defense is the top priority at this time.

Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Kazem Gharibabadi, stated that since Washington has already suspended and violated all of its commitments, Iran is taking the same step. The Iranian official further emphasized that the country is currently focused on its defense, adding that the U.S.’s “aggressive actions” will lead nowhere.

The memorandum of understanding between the two sides had ended weeks of clashes and paved the way for detailed negotiations, but it collapsed after hostilities between Iran and the U.S. flared up again.

“We were in negotiations. Unfortunately, it was the Americans themselves who carried out these aggressive actions, violating their own commitments,” Garibabadi said on Iranian state television.

“As a result, we have suspended all our commitments and are essentially no longer implementing them,” he added.

His remarks are yet another indication that negotiations between Tehran and Washington, mediated by Qatar and Pakistan, have essentially reached an impasse.

Last week, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he considers the ceasefire “over,” following an attack by an Iranian drone on a ship passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

“What we are facing now is the defense of our country,” Garibabadi said. “We will do so with determination, and I believe the Americans have once again received their answer: these aggressive actions will get them nowhere.”

Earlier this week, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghai had stated that Tehran would continue to respond “resolutely” to U.S. strikes and that there are no plans to resume negotiations.

“We currently have no plans for negotiations and remain focused on defending the country,” Baghai told reporters in Tehran.
