Dimitris Giannakopoulos, during a casual Instagram Live session, discussed Panathinaikos’s transfer activity and revealed which player he would ideally like to add to this year’s roster: Sergio Llull of Real Madrid.
Panathinaikos continues to scout the market for a top-tier point guard, following the signings of Yabusele, Badio, Bonga, and Fall, with Giannakopoulos explaining that Yul would be his personal choice—even though he knows the signing isn’t realistic.
“I’d like to have Yul. I don’t want him to end his career where he’s played for twenty years. Imagine this team with Yul on it for a year. But it’s not going to happen. It’s like if they came to take Alvertis away from you,” he said pointedly, emphasizing that Panathinaikos with the Spaniard at the “1” position would be “a machine that would run perfectly.”
Giannakopoulos reiterated that his own preference is clear: “I’d sign Yul—whatever it costs, just take it. But it’s not my decision. I just carry out the orders,” implying that planning is proceeding based on the recommendations of the coaching staff.
