Mediators have conveyed to Iran a proposal to de-escalate the conflict with the U.S. that offers a 10-day ceasefire in order to find ways to revive a provisionalagreement reached last month, an Iranian official told Reuters today.
Meanwhile, Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momani is expected to travel to Pakistan today, a country mediating in the Middle East conflict, a source at the Pakistani Interior Ministry told Agence France-Presse.
The source confirmed that the minister will meet with Pakistani officials in the capital, but did not specify whether his visit is linked to Islamabad’s diplomatic efforts to end hostilities between the U.S. and Iran.
A spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry had stated earlier today that diplomatic efforts with the United States are continuing through intermediaries, despite the U.S. military’s bombing of Iranian territory.
For his part, Iranian President Masoud Pezeskian stated today that Iran is facing a “total” war with the United States and warned of the consequences for the country’s economy.
“The reality is that today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is facing total war” from the United States, Pezeskian said, adding that Iranians must “accept the natural consequences of this resistance,” according to statements reported on the presidency’s website.
