The soccer world mourns: Kevin Keegan has died

He lost his battle with cancer

World soccer legend and two-time Ballon d'Or winner Kevin Keegan passed away on Monday (July 20).

He had been diagnosed with stage IV cancer last January and passed away at the age of 75.

Born on February 14, 1951, he is considered one of the greatest players of his generation and in the history of England. He helped Liverpool win three English league titles.

He was also named the world’s best soccer player in 1978 and 1979, and made over 750 appearances in total during his career.

A statement from Kevin Keegan’s family:

“It is with immense sadness that we announce that Kevin Keegan has passed away at the age of 75.

Kevin had been battling cancer and was surrounded by his wife and daughters in his final moments.

A two-time Ballon d’Or winner, Kevin was a much-loved husband, father, and grandfather.

The family would like to thank Kevin’s incredible medical team for all their support.

This is an extremely difficult time, and they ask for space and privacy.”
