Kostas Flevarakis emphasized the importance of PAOK’s signing of Cedi Osman in his remarks. The Greek coach, who has also served as PAOK’s head coach, spoke to “Metropolis,” noting that the signing of the Turkish star is more than just the acquisition of a player for the “Double-Headed Eagle of the North”; it signals the beginning of a new era for the team.
“It’s clear that all of this brings back memories of past eras and is exactly what PAOK fans have been hoping for. Everyone is looking forward to history repeating itself. I’ve also experienced the team’s difficult periods, which should serve as lessons for the future, since at one time, day-to-day life was much harder than what people realize.
Significant efforts have been made by the management over the years to keep the team competitive. Now the important thing is to look ahead, finalize the roster properly, and see how this group of players will be able to meet the high goals that have been set. All the signings raise the bar, but the acquisition of Osman signals the start of a new era. He’s a player who comes from the top level and shows that PAOK now has competitive ambitions. He can help in many areas and has already contributed something very important: he has changed the team’s mindset and given the fans the sense that something is truly changing,” he said, adding:
“On the court, he’s one of the best small forwards in Europe. Aside from transition play, which is one of his strengths, he can also contribute on defense and works exceptionally well as part of the team. Andrea Trinchieri now has a pleasant problem. Every coach would love to have so many quality options at his disposal. I believe the adjustment period will be shorter than we expect.”
Finally, he spoke about Nick Calathes, the team’s other major signing.
“Although he’s getting on in years, he’s very important. You need players with quality, but above all, chemistry. I’m not so concerned with the names. All the players need to come together as a unit. Trinchieri has the experience to forge that connection and build a team with a clear identity.”
