A tropical storm, named Bertha (Bertha), is intensifying today in the Gulf of Mexico and threatening U.S. states in the southern United States with high winds and flooding in coastal areas.

On Tuesday morning (July 21), the storm was located about 115 kilometers southwest of Panama City, Florida, and was moving slowly toward the northwest and the coast, accompanied by winds of up to 97 kilometers per hour, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC).
Coastal areas of the U.S. have been placed on watch or under a warning for a tropical storm, strong winds, torrential rain, and possible flooding, which are expected “along the northern Gulf Coast on Tuesday night and through Wednesday,” according to the NHC.
