Announcement of the Launch of the Public Consultation on the National Strategy for Artificial Intelligence (AI), which was drafted by the National Expert Committee on Artificial Intelligence (National AI Task Force), which was established by a Decision of the Council of Ministers (Decision No. 97,538, dated January 22, 2025), chaired by the Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation, and Technology, and comprising eleven (11) members from the public and private sectors, as well as the academic and research communities.
The Strategy constitutes the comprehensive national policy framework of the Republic of Cyprus for harnessing the potential of the digital economy, with the vision that, by 2032, Cyprus will be recognized as the trusted AI hub in the Eastern Mediterranean, as a reliable European jurisdiction for the provision of services that leverage the TN, and as a bridge between the European Union and neighboring regions.
The Strategy is structured around 8 interrelated National Strategic Objectives:
- Establishing Cyprus as a trusted jurisdiction for digital technology.
- Increasing national productivity through the responsible adoption of the New Deal.
- Developing a strong and inclusive digital transformation ecosystem.
- Transforming public services through the use of digital technology.
- Developing, attracting, and retaining skills and human capital in the field of digital technology.
- Ensuring secure, sovereign, and interoperable data and infrastructure.
- Establishing strong governance, ethics, and accountability in every use of AI.
- Developing sovereign national capabilities through strategic partnerships.
The public consultation is being conducted through the government’s “e-Consultation” platform at the following link: https://tinyurl.com/2htc4zve, where the draft National Strategy is also posted.
All interested parties are invited to submit their comments, suggestions, and observations via the “e-Consultation” platform by August 31, 2026.
