We’re experiencing the hottest days of this summer today and tomorrow, and today’s first orange alert of the year will be issued again on Thursday, as temperatures in the interior of the island are about 5 degrees higher than normal for this time of year. There will be a noticeable drop of 4–5 degrees over the weekend.
Meteorologist Andreas Chrysanthou told CNA that temperatures today and tomorrow will reach 43 degrees Celsius in the interior. “Today, Wednesday, and tomorrow, Thursday, are the hottest days of our summer so far,” he said. On the coast, he added, temperatures will range from 33 to 36 degrees, with high humidity levels adding to the discomfort.
On Friday, he continued, temperatures will begin to drop, and over the weekend there will be a noticeable drop, with temperatures 4–5 degrees lower than today’s. “So we’ll get some temporary relief from this situation, at least starting Friday.”
Mr. Chrysanthou said that normal temperatures for the Nicosia area are around 37.
He noted that the hours covered by the orange alert are from noon to 5 p.m., “times when the public should take certain measures to protect themselves.” Temperatures reach their peak, he said, around 2–3 p.m.
And on Monday, he noted, temperatures will remain at weekend levels, while a rise is forecast starting next Tuesday and continuing thereafter.
