There was a strong police presence and activity throughout Cyprus last night, with organized patrols conducted at key locations in urban areas, aimed at preventing serious criminal acts, ensuring public order, and increasing the public’s sense of security.
These preventive police operations resulted in the arrest of two individuals for offenses including illegal stay in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, public intoxication, disturbing the peace, and others.
As part of these operations, 682 vehicles were stopped for inspection overnight, and 952 individuals traveling in them were checked. At the same time, 41 inspections were carried out at premises to address illegal activities, resulting in one complaint.
During the traffic checks that were carried out, 368 citations were issued for various traffic violations, and ten cases of traffic violations are currently under investigation.
Of the citations issued, 161 were for speeding, and as part of the police investigations, ten vehicles were impounded. In addition, 200 breathalyzer tests were conducted, resulting in six citations, as well as one preliminary drug test that yielded a positive result.
Law enforcement operations aimed at crime prevention and suppression continue daily, with an increased/reinforced police presence, targeted checks, and immediate operational action, with the aim of increasing citizens’ sense of security, protecting citizens, and ensuring public order.
