Daniel Theis did not hide his satisfaction with his deal with Maccabi. The German center signed with the Tel Aviv team after his move to Villeurbanne—which he had previously agreed to—fell through.
“I’m very excited to be joining Maccabi Tel Aviv,” Tays said on Maccabi’s official website after signing the contract. “This is an organization with a rich history and many successes in European basketball. I can’t wait to get started and win games with my new team.”

The team’s longtime president, Simon Mizrahi, said of Maccabi’s new signing: “This is a very important signing. Daniel Theis is an experienced player, and his addition is a major boost to Maccabi’s defense as well.”
Maccabi head coach Oded Katash said: “Daniel Theis will bring a lot of experience to our team. He has played at every level, for NBA and EuroLeague teams, and won the World Cup and the European Championship with Germany. He knows what it means to be on a winning team and what it takes to win. On the court, he’s extremely versatile; he can play both inside and outside the paint and gives us a wide range of options at that position. We’re looking forward to starting to work together.”
