Nicosia Mayor Charalambos Pruntzos has expressed the municipality’s readiness to assist in the restoration of the historic building that once housed the Corner beer hall.
In a post, Mr. Prountzos states that “the destruction of Corner by fire wounds the memories of Nicosia’s residents and damages the city’s architectural heritage,” adding that it dramatically exacerbates “an unsightly scene that already existed next to the Presidential Palace and across from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.”
As he notes, he contacted the Director of the Department of Urban Planning and Housing, expressing the Nicosia Municipality’s readiness to assist “in any way deemed necessary to restore this listed building to the life of the city.”
“Its full restoration and reuse, in collaboration with the owners, will be a victory for the history and cultural heritage of the capital,” the Mayor emphasized.
