In an official request, the Spanish government asked Italy to restore the Schengen Agreement to full effect by Sunday, August 9.
“Otherwise, Spain will be forced to adopt corresponding measures to protect the interests and dignity of its citizens,” the statement added.
Madrid also emphasized that “Italy is the country with the highest number of irregular entries in recent years, with figures even double those of Spain.”
It should be recalled that immediately following the Ceuta crisis, the Meloni government decided to temporarily suspend the Schengen Agreement with Spain until the end of August. According to the Italian press, however, this measure may be lifted earlier, most likely before August 15.
