The case involving Gianni Infantino has taken on new dimensions following a report in *The Telegraph* regarding an alleged relationship between the FIFA president and a former UEFA employee, during the time he served as general secretary of the European federation.
According to the British publication, UEFA reached a severance agreement with the woman in question, paying her a six-figure sum, and reportedly also covered the costs of her MBA program.
The report states that the woman, who initially worked in an administrative position, was promoted to a higher-level role during her alleged relationship with Infantino, a fact that—according to Telegraph sources—had raised questions within UEFA.
According to the report, the then-UEFA president, Michel Platini, was reportedly informed of the situation and had asked Infantino for an explanation. According to the same sources, it was ultimately decided that the employee would leave with that severance package.
UEFA confirmed that the payment was made, noting, however, that the process was in accordance with the regulations in effect at that time and that the relevant policies have changed since 2016.
Infantino categorically denies the allegations. FIFA emphasized that there has never been an official complaint from an employee regarding inappropriate behavior by its president and described the allegations as “false.”
The Telegraph’s revelation adds new pressure on the FIFA president, at a time when he is already facing intense criticism for his decisions and his management of the world soccer federation.
