The Holy Monastery of Saint Neophytos issued its own statement today, August 8, the Holy Monastery of Saint Neophytos, providing details on the circumstances that, according to the monastery, preceded the incident.

In its statement, the Monastery reports that the incident involved a deacon of the brotherhood, a native of a European country, who had been residing at the Monastery for a number of years.

According to the statement, the preceding issue concerned the deacon’s refusal, over a period of approximately four years, to vacate a specific room in the monastery. As noted, the deacon’s father had been living in that room for about 20 years, until his death.

The Holy Monastery states that throughout the four-year period, the Abbot demonstrated “exceptional patience, forbearance, and understanding,” repeatedly attempting to secure the handover of the room and granting the necessary time frames.

After the morning service on August 7, in the presence of other members of the brotherhood, the deacon was asked once again to hand over the space.

According to the monastery, his refusal led to an altercation during which two people were injured: a monastery employee and a novice monk.

The two injured individuals were transported to Paphos General Hospital, where they received the necessary medical care.

According to the statement, the police were immediately notified of the incident, and the injured employee filed a complaint.

The case is currently before the relevant authorities, who are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In conclusion, the Monastery states that these clarifications were provided to inform the public and prevent the spread of misinformation.

It should be noted that the case is under investigation by the police and, therefore, the statements in the announcement reflect the position of the Holy Monastery of Saint Neophytos regarding the events leading up to the incident.
