The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, spoke forcefully in remarks he made following the conclusion of the event held in memory and honor of Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomou, in Paralimni, in light of the political “storm” that erupted over appointments to quasi-governmental organizations and the role of the Advisory Council.
“I’ve read the statements being made. They come as no surprise to me, because quite simply, the party is over. A party they used to throw in the past, where one would hand out four, three for the other, two for one, one for the other, and so on—and then the Advisory Council came along to put a stop to that party.”
The President also commented on the reference to “government looting,” citing the relevant statement by AKEL, which, among other things, stated that “the looting in appointments to parastatal organizations cannot be hidden behind excuses.”

“In fact, I also heard some mention of government looting. I think people are losing their minds. Would you like me to remind you of the Cyta looting—who ended up in prison, and which party benefited from that looting? So, I realize that certain parties—and I’m referring specifically to DISY and AKEL, because I see a number of statements from both parties every day —it’s very interesting that these statements are identical. Perhaps I’m encouraging them to issue them jointly.”
The President noted that both parties “have entered an election campaign” and that the government will not follow suit.
He emphasized that the Advisory Council and its members “are doing an excellent job.”
