At least 13 people were killed when a passenger van collided with a stationary truck on a road in the Cusco region, in southeastern Peru, police announced on Saturday.
The accident occurred on the outskirts of Polpata when a passenger van, which was traveling between the cities of Chalhuahuacho and Arequipa, collided with a truck that had come to a stop on the road, said Cusco Police Chief Carlos Guizado.
Children are among the dead.
According to the police’s preliminary investigation, the van driver did not notice the truck, which had come to a stop due to a mechanical failure, in time, resulting in a violent collision.
