Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letympiotis, following statements by the two parties, which launched a fierce attack against the President of the Republic, Nicos Christodoulides.
President Christodoulides appeared particularly forceful last night in his remarks following the conclusion of the memorial and tribute event for Tassos Isaac and Solomos Solomou, in Paralimni, in light of the political “storm” that erupted over appointments to semi-governmental organizations and the role of the Advisory Council. He did not fail to respond specifically to DISY and AKEL, noting that the statements from both parties are identical and that the two parties have entered into an election campaign.

“Today’s statements by the leadership of DISY and AKEL are perhaps the best response to those who took offense at yesterday’s remarks by the President of the Republic. Same issue, same arguments, same attack, and, once again, striking timing. This political alignment no longer needs to be pointed out. It proves itself every day.”
The Government Spokesperson continued:
“The DISY leadership is protesting because the President spoke of alignment with AKEL, and, almost simultaneously, AKEL issued a statement confirming precisely that alignment. It would be hard to imagine a more eloquent response.
The alignment of the DISY and AKEL leaderships is not a characterization. It is now an everyday observation. They responded to the reference to alignment in the best possible way: simultaneously and identically.
The leaderships of DISY and AKEL can continue to coordinate with one another. If they wish, they can now even coordinate the timing of their press releases.
The government is simply stating the obvious. And the more the DISY and AKEL leaderships insist on confirming this on a daily basis, the harder it will be for them to take offense when someone points it out.”
