A fire that broke out in a fenced-off area of the landfill in the Agia Varvara area of Paphos has been brought under control, according to a statement from the Fire Department.

The report of the fire was received at 1:59 p.m., with firefighting crews mobilizing immediately and responding to the scene to contain the fire front and prevent it from spreading beyond the site’s perimeter fence.
According to the Fire Department, the fire burned inert materials, and extensive efforts were made to prevent the flames from spreading to the outer areas of the landfill. The prompt response of the fire department helped contain the fire.
Firefighting crews remain on site and are continuing to douse the area with water to fully extinguish the fire and address any remaining hot spots.
Firefighters will continue their operations until the fire is completely extinguished, and the circumstances under which the incident occurred will be investigated.
