A relaxing moment at the beach in Glyfa, Vartholomio, nearly turned into an unspeakable family tragedy. A 31-year-old woman from Pyrgos suffered extremely serious injuries to her neck in front of her two young children, while diving into the sea at noon last Friday.
According to patrisnews.com, the 31-year-old was at the beach with her family when, while playing in the water, her husband lifted her onto his shoulders and threw her into the water. The plunge, however, had a tragic outcome. The woman was reportedly thrown backward and suffered a serious neck injury, with the moments that followed being nightmarish.
The incident unfolded in front of the couple’s two young children, who watched as, in a matter of seconds, their mother’s fun in the sea turned into a harrowing ordeal.
The 31-year-old woman was initially transported with great care to the General Hospital of Pyrgos and from there to the University Hospital of Rio —due to the severity of her injury—where she remains in very critical condition.
According to the same reports, her life is not in danger, however, the severity of her neck injury is causing great concern, and doctors are fighting to minimize the damage caused by the injury as much as possible. Following the incident, the 31-year-old woman’s husband was arrested as part of the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the serious injury.
According to available information, he is being investigated for offenses related to causing bodily harm through negligence, while the competent authorities are examining all the evidence in order to fully clarify exactly what happened.
