An armed man was arrested after opening fire at a local government office on the outskirts of Thailand’s capital, Bangkok, today, according to officials, just a few days after a teenager opened fire at a school in the same province, reigniting the debate over gun control.

“There are two injured people, who were taken to the hospital for treatment,” Dezrapi said in remarks to Reuters. Nine people were killed and more than 20 were injured when a 14-year-old boy allegedly killed his grandfather and grandmother and then other people at his school in the province ofNonthaburi province on Friday, before turning the gun on himself, in the deadliest mass shooting in Thailand in nearly four years.

Provincial Police Commander Lieutenant General Dezrapi Kongdi stated that the armed suspect, a former member of parliament, opened fire on a high-ranking provincial official and his driver. The alleged perpetrator was arrested, he added.

Students returned to their schools across the country today, some passing through metal detectors and other security checks, as Prime Minister Anutin Sarniwirakul reiterated his intention to strengthen gun control following Friday’s school shooting.
