Andreas Koutounas, the longest-serving community leader of Frenaros, has passed away, plunging the local community into mourning.
His funeral will be held today, Monday, August 10, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., at the Church of the Archangel Michael in Frenaros, while the family will receive condolences starting at 5:00 p.m., according to a post by the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia. The funeral will be held at public expense, “as a minimal token of honor and gratitude for his long-standing and valuable contributions.”
“With deep emotion and unspeakable sorrow, the Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia and the Municipal District of Frenaros bid farewell to the 27-year-long Community Leader of Frenaros, Andreas Koutounas, who passed away at the age of 90,” the Municipality states in its post.
Andreas Koutounas served Frenaros from 1979 to 2006, as the longest-serving community leader in the community’s history.
“With vision, hard work, and dedication, he linked his name to a period of substantial development, leaving behind significant achievements and a great legacy for future generations. Above all, he will be remembered by all as a man of service, integrity, and selflessness, who served his community with consistency and love, earning the respect and appreciation of his fellow citizens,” adds the Municipality.
The Mayor of Paralimni–Deryneia, the Deputy Mayor of Frenaros, and the entire City Council express their deepest sorrow and sincere condolences to his wife, children, grandchildren, relatives, and all his loved ones.
“The Municipality of Paralimni–Deryneia and Frenaros bid farewell today to a great figure in local government, who dedicated his life to serving his community and its people. May his memory live on forever,” the Municipality concludes.
