Anita Dimitriou, President of the Democratic Alarm, met today with Alexia Potamitou, who has joined the Government Work Monitoring Council, taking over the Social Welfare portfolio, a position previously held by Tina Pavlou, now Deputy Minister of Social Welfare.
Welcoming Alexia Potamitou to the Council, Annita Dimitriou stated:
“Social welfare is a field that requires knowledge, sensitivity, empathy, and meaningful engagement with society and the real needs of the people.
Alexia combines her academic training and many years of professional experience with a deeply human and experiential approach. She is a woman of social sensitivity, strength, and a genuine willingness to serve.
I am particularly pleased that she is joining the Government Project Monitoring Council, and I am certain that she will make a substantial contribution both to monitoring government policies in the field of social welfareas well as in the formulation of concrete and actionable proposals, with a focus on people and the real needs of society.”

Alexia Potamitou is a dietitian with more than 18 years of professional experience, holding a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Dietetics from the United States, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. focusing on menopause and andropause. She is a certified menopause dietitian and the author of three nutrition books and one children’s book. She is also the founder and President of the Nicholas Zoe Foundation, a charity she established in memory of her 9-year-old son, Nicholas, who passed away in 2023 after his courageous battle with Ewing’s sarcoma.
Ms. Potamitou’s biography in detail:
Alexia was born in Athens, Greece. She moved to Nicosia, Cyprus, where she completed high school and then went to Göttingen, Germany, to study medicine. She discovered her passion for health and nutrition at an early age, so she left Germany to study dietetics in the United States. There, she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees
in Dietetics. She is currently working on her Ph.D., focusing on menopause and andropause, respectively.
She is the only certified menopause dietitian in Cyprus and a member of the North American Menopause Society.
Dietetics in the private sector has been Alexia’s profession and passion for more than 18 years. She enjoys counseling patients and clients on various health issues such as IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), diabetes, hypertension, weight loss, and nutrition during the perimenopausal, menopausal, and
postmenopausal periods. She recently became a certified menopause specialist. She firmly believes that there is no “one-size-fits-all” solution!
Alexia’s core values are love, forgiveness, and choice. These values have allowed her to forge strong bonds with her family, friends, and clients and to live a more fulfilling life. Alexia is the author of three nutrition books and a children’s book, and a passionate advocate for health and women’s issues.
Alexia is the mother of a 9-year-old hero, Nikolas, who bravely battled Ewing’s sarcoma. Nicholas passed away on October 24, 2023. She is the founder and president of the Nicholas Zoe
Foundation, a charitable organization.
