One of the biggest investment deals in soccer history is nearing completion, with Jeff Bezos set to join Liverpool.

According to Sky News, Fenway Sports Group, which has been the majority shareholder of the “Reds” since 2010, is in advanced talks to sell approximately one-third of the club’s shares to an investment consortium.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is participating in this consortium, along with Eduardo Saverin, one of the co-founders of Facebook. The investment group is headed by Amit Batia, the son-in-law of billionaire Lakshmi Mittal and, until recently, a shareholder of KPR.

In fact, developments are expected imminently, as the deal may be announced as early as this week, though it’s possible that its finalization could be pushed back to the coming days.

The size of the deal is also making quite a splash. This investment reportedly values Liverpool at $6 billion, making the deal one of the largest ever in the world of soccer.

Bezos has a net worth estimated at more than $280 billion, while Savarin’s exceeds $32 billion. If the deal goes through, Liverpool will add some of the world’s most financially powerful figures to its ownership structure.

The majority owner of the “Reds,” John G. Henry, confirmed in 2023 that the club was seeking outside investors. Later that same year, Liverpool reached an agreement with the global sports investment firm Dynasty Equity, which invested an amount estimated to be between 100 and 200 million dollars.
