The National Popular Front emphasizes the need to hold those responsible for the murder of Tassos Isaac accountable, in a statement marking the 30th anniversary of the events of August 11, 1996, at the Deryneia roadblock.
The statement reads as follows:
On August 11, 1996, the Greek community of Cyprus lost yet another of its true sons.
On this day, the Gray Wolves beat Tasos Isaac to death during a peaceful protest against the Turkish invasion and the ongoing illegal occupation at the Deryneia roadblock.
Unfortunately, no real justice was served for the cowardly murder of this hero, which took place right before the eyes of the UN.
As ELAM, we demand an end to the tolerance of Turkish barbarism, and that his murderers be arrested and punished.
We honor Tasos Isaac as a symbol of self-sacrifice, pure patriotism, and a martyr to Turkish audacity. His example guides us in the struggle for LIBERATION.
