Specifically, a 26-year-old woman reported today to the Paphos Police Department that yesterday she received a text message on her cell phone, which falsely listed “GOVCY” as the sender and stated that she had an outstanding fine.
The message also directed the 26-year-old to a link to supposedly pay the fine. After clicking on the link and entering her credit card information, she subsequently discovered that an amount exceeding 4,800 euros had been withdrawn.
The Paphos CID is continuing its investigation.
The Police advise the public that these messages are fake and have no connection to the Cyprus Police.
