Makarios Drousiotis’s immediate reaction came following the statement by the Minister of the Interior, who issued instructions to send a letter to the police recommending an investigation into the fundraising campaign for the journalist, for any potential criminal offense.
“They’re hounding me with the criminal code in hand,” Makarios Drousiotis wrote in a post on X.

He adds that “I did not organize any charity fundraiser, and my case does not fall under the scope of the Law on Fundraising,” a point confirmed, as he notes, by the legal counsel he consulted.
At the same time, he speaks of a vendetta on the part of the government.
“It is now clear that this government is hounding me with the criminal code in hand and seeking to destroy me by any means necessary. They want to put me on trial without lawyers and without scientific support. This hostility means something…”
At the same time, he cites another ongoing online campaign as an example.

It should be noted that Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou, responding to public reactions and reports regarding this specific campaign, stated that “instructions were given yesterday to send a letter to the police as the competent authority, informing them of the act in question and recommending that they proceed with an investigation into whether a criminal offense was committed under the legislation governing fundraising campaigns.”
As for the police, as we were told by the Communications Division of Police Headquarters, the authorities are aware of the campaign, and so far, no letter has been received from the Ministry of the Interior.
It should be noted that Makarios Drousiotis’s campaign has raised over €46,000 so far.
