Three operations to locate and rescue a total of 147 foreign nationals have been carried out in recent hours in the sea area south of Kalo Limena, Crete, under the coordination of the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSED).
In the first incident, a Frontex unmanned aerial vehicle spotted a boat carrying 32 people, 45 nautical miles southeast of Kala Limena. The passengers were rescued by a Frontex vessel and transported to the port of Kala Limena.
In a second operation, also with the assistance of a Frontex unmanned aerial vehicle, a boat carrying 69 people was spotted early this morning, approximately 60 nautical miles southeast of Kala Limena. In this case as well, the rescue was carried out by a Frontex vessel, bound for the same port.
Last night, 37 nautical miles southeast of Kala Limena, a Frontex aircraft spotted a third boat carrying 46 foreign nationals, who were rescued by a Coast Guard patrol vessel and transported to Kaloi Limenes.
