Firefighters in the Paphos district managed to prevent the worst from happening.
The fire broke out at 12:30 p.m. in the Agios Vatzeros area of the Marathountas community and was brought under control shortly before 2:00 p.m., after burning a total area of 6 hectares of low wild vegetation, including a private agricultural plot with almond trees.
According to a statement from the Forestry Department, 23 personnel from the Forestry Department participated in the firefighting operation, utilizing 7 fire trucks and one water tanker. In addition, 16 members of the Fire Service contributed to the firefighting efforts with 7 fire trucks, one water tender, and one water tanker.
Aerial resources were also deployed.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
