A bitter feud has erupted at the Cyprus Youth Organization, amid the resignations of three members of the Board of Directors, which have left it unable to make decisions for the past six months, causing serious repercussions.
Yesterday’s statement by the Organization’s President on Alpha TV, in which she criticized the government’s delay in making the necessary appointments, infuriated the youth wing of the Democratic Alarm, which accuses her of acting as a bystander in a crisis in which she played a leading role.
“The three members did not resign suddenly and without reason. They resigned at a time when the President herself had clashed with half of her Board of Directors, while at the same time complaints, confrontations, and an exchange of legal letters with ONEK’s executive leadership. These internal conflicts had completely paralyzed ONEK, to the point where the Board of Directors could not even meet to make decisions.” NEDISY
Adding that even today, a joint meeting between the President and the Acting Executive Director was proposed to seek a solution, which Konstantina Achilleos declined. The latter rejected these allegations, stating that she is ready to cooperate, while noting that the issue does not concern personal or partisan differences.
“I have no problem with criticism, oversight, or accountability. On the contrary, these are an integral part of the democratic and institutional functioning of an organization. What is needed today is to set aside our differences and work to restore the smooth operation of ONEK.” Kon/na Achilleos, President of ONEK
The Organization’s President calls on NEDISY to appoint its representative so that the appointment of new members by the Council of Ministers can proceed. Reports indicate that developments on this matter are expected soon.
