Moroccan security forces thwarted a new attempt by hundreds of migrants to cross into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
The new mobilization was organized following social media posts calling for a second attempt to cross, as part of a new disinformation campaign that had been underway for several days.
Migrants gathered in the town of Castillejos, near the border with Ceuta, and began moving toward the border at around 6 a.m.
Videos showed hundreds of people running toward the Spanish enclave.

Moroccan authorities deployed riot control units, armored vehicles, and a helicopter to monitor the area, according to the Spanish newspaper El País. According to Spanish media, police pursued the migrants and surrounded them about three kilometers from Ceuta.
According to sources from Moroccan security services cited by the Spanish news agency EFE, 111 migrants were prevented from crossing the border, while 61 people were arrested on charges of facilitating illegal immigration.
The migrants had gathered in a ravine in the Seramika neighborhood, the area closest to the border. Moroccan authorities removed them using buses chartered for this purpose and transported them to various parts of the country, including Ouarzazate, more than 800 kilometers from the border with Spain.
