Crossings by Greek Cypriots are increasing, while those by Turkish Cypriots are decreasing: How many people crossed the checkpoints by June 2026?

The number of crossings by Greek Cypriots has been on the rise over the past year and a half, according to police data. At the same time, the number of crossings by Turkish Cypriots has been declining.

Specifically, in the first half of 2026, crossings at the checkpoints totaled 1,733,326, of which 920,679 were by Greek Cypriots and 812,647 by Turkish Cypriots.

In the first half of 2026, Greek Cypriot crossings totaled 920,679, an increase of approximately 108,000 compared to the second half of 2025 and an increase of approximately 280,000 compared to the same period last year.

In contrast, Turkish Cypriot crossings in the first half of 2026 decreased by approximately 143,000 compared to the second half of 2025 and by approximately 215,000 compared to the corresponding period last year.

Meanwhile, according to reports by Turkish Cypriot media, more than 2,400 Greek Cypriots arrived in the pseudo-state via the illegal airport in Tymbou and the illegal ports during the first half of 2026.

Specifically, as reported, arrivals by sea and air totaled 146,096 in the first half of 2026, of whom 2,440 were Greek Cypriots, while during the corresponding period in 2025, the number of Greek Cypriots who arrived at illegal entry points was 2,685. According to the same sources, 667 Greeks arrived in the first half of 2026.
