What a finish to Sevilla’s La Liga opener! The Andalusian team found themselves trailing, were down to ten men in the 88th minute, but they didn’t give up, and with a goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time, they completed a stunning comeback, defeating Rayo Vallecano 2-1.
Rayo took the lead as early as the 4th minute through Álvaro García, but Sevilla responded in the 52nd minute through Yon Guridi, who converted from the penalty spot to level the score.
The game became even more intense in the closing minutes. In the 88th minute, Kike Salas was sent off with a straight red card, leaving Sevilla a man down. And yet, the home team not only held on but kept pushing for the winning goal until the very end.
And they found it in the 90’+7′! Peke stepped up to take the second penalty Sevilla had earned, sent the ball into the net, and secured a dramatic three points for his team while down a man.
Earlier, Alavés got off to a strong start in LaLiga, defeating Getafe 3-0 in a match that came alive in the closing minutes. The home team capitalized on Kiko Femenía’s red card in the 42nd minute and scored three goals in 21 minutes, with Tenalia (73’), Mariano Díaz (90+1’) and Mikel Rodríguez (90+4’) setting the final score.
